Akhna Explorer for Windows
Ask questions about your documents and get answers with citations — running entirely on your PC. No cloud, no account, nothing uploaded, works offline.
Set up (about 5 minutes, mostly download time)
- Extract the download. Right-click the downloaded zip → Extract All… and pick a location you'll find again (e.g. your Desktop).
- Add your documents. Open the extracted AkhnaExplorer folder and copy your files into the documents folder inside it. PDF, TXT, and MD files all work.
- Start it. Double-click run.bat. A console window opens, loads the AI, lists your documents, and asks for your first question.
Windows will warn you the first time. Because this preview isn't signed yet, SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC." Click More info, then Run anyway. That's expected for now — a signed version (and a Microsoft Store listing) is in the works. The app makes no network connections at all; feel free to try it with Wi‑Fi off.
What to expect
- The first answer is the slowest — a few minutes on a typical laptop while the AI reads its instructions once. Follow-up questions are much faster.
- Answers cite their sources like [1], with the matching file names listed under each answer.
- It won't make things up. If the answer isn't in your documents, it says so instead of guessing.
- You can ask follow-ups — it remembers the last few turns of the conversation.
- To switch documents, change the files in documents and run run.bat again. Type quit to exit.
If something goes wrong
- "VCRUNTIME140.dll missing" — install the free Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64), then run again.
- Scanned PDFs (pictures of pages with no selectable text) can't be read — use a text-based PDF or paste the text into a .txt file.
- Anything else — email a screenshot to kakollu@gmail.com. This is a preview; rough edges are exactly what we want to hear about.
Privacy
Everything runs locally: the AI model, the document index, and your questions never leave your machine. There's no account, no telemetry, and no server — the download is large precisely because the whole AI is in the folder. Looking for the full app? Akhna for Mac is on the App Store.
